Proper actions for everyday life are summarised, understandable for the lay person, in the so-called Knee Guide. Such a therapy is to be recommended also for the pain-free interval or the postoperative phase.

The 10 major rules:

  • Movement is important
  • Avoid excess strain
  • Weight reduction in case of overweight
  • Avoid prolonged standing and walking
  • Relief of the joints
  • No lifting and carrying of heavy objects
  • Avoid strong bending of the knee (over 90°) under load
  • Proper shoes with flat heels and soft sole
  • Engage in knee-friendly types of sport (biking, swimming)
  • Daily training of the leg muscles
